Aikido of Petaluma Open House – May 17th
Saturday, May 17th, Open House.
All classes are always open to all students and beginners but this event will be an outstanding day for who want an introduction to the arts.
All three classes, energy, T’ai Chi, and Akido will review the history and basics. T’ai Chi and Aikido videos will also be shown. Come join and celebrate with us
Announcement: Western Aikido Association Recognized By Aikikai Hombu Dojo
We are very happy to announce that the organization Aikido of Petaluma belongs to has been officially recognized by the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Western Aikido Association was started in 2011 by Robert Frager Shihan. Please read the announcement on the Aikido Journal here:
William Misson promoted to Godan
Aikido of Petaluma is very happy to announce the promotion of William Misson to the rank of Godan (5th degree black belt). Bill has been training in Aikido since the late 60s and is the senior student of Sensei Bob Noha.
Please join us in congratulating Bill on this wonderful milestone in his training.
Charlie Stapp Promoted to Yondan
Aikido of Petaluma is very happy to announce the promotion of Charlie Stapp to yondan (4th degree black belt). Charlie began Aikido training in 1987 under Bob Noha Sensei and achieved his shodan (1st degree black belt) in 1994. He teaches our Tuesday classes and is a great benefit to everyone in the dojo. Congratulations, Charlie!

On October 5, Saturday evening (6:30 – 9:00 pm) there will be a very special Book Release Event in Santa Cruz for the public (including all Aikidoists!), at the beautiful First Congregational Church, 900 High Street. This event will include book reading, signing, and sales; speakers, presentations, and probably an Aikido demonstration. Please join us for the evening and bring your friends! Details to follow soon – please save the October 5 date!
And — on Sunday, October 6, there will be a Book Release Celebration at Aikido of Santa Cruz during the day, especially for Aikidoists. There will be Aikido classes led by Mary Heiny Sensei, Linda Holiday Sensei, and others; book-reading, book-signing, Q&A, food and fun! Hours will likely be 10:30 to about 3:00. Details coming soon – Save the date–October 6!
BREAKING NEWS: ANNO SENSEI has indicated his intention to join us from Japan for the Book Release events!!! Linda Sensei is waiting for confirmation. Stay tuned for news. And…did we mention?….Save the first weekend in October!!!
Western Aikido Association Fall Seminar Information
Aikido of Petaluma will be participating in the Western Aikido Association Fall Seminar. The seminar will be co-taught by John Stevens Shihan and Robert Frager Shihan and is titled, “Exploring O Sensei’s Aikido”. We are very pleased to announce that our instructor Charlie Stapp will be presenting his 4th Dan demonstration on Saturday October 5th.
