The FREE beginners day class is oriented to people with little to no experience of Aikido and who want to learn more.  

The class will include demonstrations by the instructor, Bob Noha, and students and a chance for beginners to participate.

We are in our 40th year of practice and we have many long-term students as well as beginners, who are the lifeblood of our school.  We offer the opportunity for long-term in-depth practice in a supportive community of students and teachers.

There is no signup or reservation required, you can simply come to the school on beginners day.

Please note that proof of vaccination and a mask is required to attend in person.

The class will also be Zoomed.

We live in times when finding a personal center and the ability to experience life with a sense of joy and flourishing is important and challenging.  Many people are looking to find the balance between a sense of competence and well-being in their daily lives.

 

The process of experiencing life from this perspective is our goal.

Saturday, May 17th, Open House.

All classes are always open to all students and beginners but this event will be an outstanding day for who want an introduction to the arts.

All three classes, energy, T’ai Chi, and Akido will review the history and basics.  T’ai Chi and Aikido videos will also be shown.  Come join and celebrate with us

On October 5, Saturday evening (6:30 – 9:00 pm) there will be a very special Book Release Event in Santa Cruz for the public (including all Aikidoists!), at the beautiful First Congregational Church, 900 High Street. This event will include book reading, signing, and sales; speakers, presentations, and probably an Aikido demonstration. Please join us for the evening and bring your friends! And — on Sunday, October 6, there will be a Book Release Celebration at Aikido of Santa Cruz during the day, especially for Aikidoists. There will be Aikido classes led by Mary Heiny Sensei, Linda Holiday Sensei, and others; book-reading, book-signing, Q&A, food and fun! Hours will likely be 10:30 to about 3:00. BREAKING NEWS: ANNO SENSEI has indicated his intention to join us from Japan for the Book Release events!!! Linda Sensei is waiting for confirmation. Stay tuned for news. And…did we mention?….Save the first weekend in October!!!

On Saturday October 5th and Sunday October 6th, Aikido of Petaluma will be participating in the Western Aikido Association’s Fall Seminar. The seminar will be taught by John Stevens Shihan and Robert Frager Shihan and will feature a calligraphy class by Sensei Stevens. One of our instructors, Charlie Stapp will be presenting his yondan demonstration. As a result of our participation we will not be holding Aikido class in Petaluma on Saturday the 5th.

Times are TBD and we will posting more info when we get more information. Bob Noha sensei has negotiated discount pricing at Dinah’s Garden Hotel in Palo Alto for those who want to stay in Palo Alto for the event.  You can find instructions and details for the discounted pricing here.

On July 20th Aikido of Petaluma will be celebrating 30 years of teaching in Petaluma for Sensei Noha. We will be having a special training session reflecting on students and their lessons learned, as well as a first kyu test.  Former students, friends and guests are welcome to join or watch the training.

After class we will be going to Pub Republic (arriving there between 1:30 and 2:00) to celebrate and everyone are welcome.  Please bring cash to the restaurant as we cannot manage credit cards for this many people.

On March 9th, from 11:30am to 1:00pm we will be hosting a free seminar. The workshop will share the basics of Shotokan Style Karate. It will include practice of both basics and kata. Roger Hamilton is a master teacher of Shotokan with decades of experience in several martial arts, a tournmanet champion and promoter. He is also the author of an autobiography called Never Quit.
