One of Sensei’s students up in Klamath Falls, Oregon recently held kyu testing at his school.
On Saturday, March 10, 2012, Aikido of Petaluma conducted testing for the rank of shodan (new black belt). Three candidates, Nancy Vayhinger, Aldo Quezada, and Mark De Souza successfully tested. We had a lot of support from family, members of visiting dojos and some great participation from the school. Here is some footage of the event: Nancy Vayhinger [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUjm3oarRqQ] Mark De Souza [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXmX9enPUQE] Aldo Quezada [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCS4Dpur77I]

He discusses how with some simple practices we can integrate and experience these realms in a sword practice called Sho Chiku, Bai. "Study the teachings of the pine tree, the bamboo and the plum blossom. The pine (sho) is evergreen, firmly rooted and venerable. The Bamboo (chiku) is strong, resilient, unbreakable. The plum blossom (bai) is hardy, fragrant and elegant." - Morihei Ueshiba [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg9XHSTBgFg]

From the Kuma Kai Website:
Nadeau Sensei studied directly with O’Sensei. This is a great opportunity to study with a master teacher who has studied with the master himself!
For more information, please go to the Kuma Kai Website or contact Denise Barry at 707-829-9550
Normally we have weapons training on the last Saturday of each month, but to prepare for the Nadeau seminar we postponed January’s weapons training till Feb 5th. And what a beautiful day it was for our first outdoor training of the year. The sun was out and the temperature was perfect.
We practiced the first four Sho, Chiku, Bai movements and will be going over them and getting to the rest of them at the next weapons training.
John Stevens will be at a San Francisco art exhibit at Fort Mason the weekend of Feb 5th. Bob had mentioned that if you are interested in going Bob may be able to get complementary tickets.
Here is Bill Misson, our oldest Aikido student and Sensei’s second oldest student (Sensei has a t’ai chi student in his 90s). Bill is shown here doing some jiwa waza with Sasun Torikian.
